Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Maung Maung Kyaw and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) arrived at Triangle Region Command Headquarters this morning. At the meeting hall, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Hlaing reported on arrangements for regional security and peace.
The Senior General attended to the needs.
Next, the Senior General delivered a speech in meeting with officers and other ranks and their families at Kengtung Station in the afternoon. The meeting was also attended by the Senior General’s wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief (Air)General Maung Maung Kyaw, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and Triangle Region Command Commander Maj-Gen Khin Hlaing.
In his speech, the Senior General said in pursuing multi-party democracy chosen by the people in 2011, the Tatmadaw is trying to ensure and maintain the stability of Myanmar’s political system, which is still immature. The Tatmadaw is responsible not only for national defence but also for regional development. Being a part of the State, the Tatmadaw is an organization formed in line with the law. As Tatmadaw members and their families are the citizens born of the people,they are duty-bound to have shares of merits and demerits of the country. Therefore, all must work in concert for national development.The Tatmadaw is giving a helping hand to the efforts for regional interest, economic progress, public welfare and life security of the people. In issuing a statement on achieving internal peace on 21 December, the Tatmadaw announced a cessation of military operations unless there is any attempt to disrupt the functioning of different levels of the government’s administrative mechanism and smooth transportation and harm the lives and property of the people. And this statement is the firm stance of the Tatmadaw.
The Senior General said during independence struggles and anti-insurgency, the Tatmadaw bravely fought battles with the weapons they had at risk of their lives for the defence of public lives and property and State peace and stability. Now, the Tatmadaw is empowering itself to shoulder national defence duties. As the duty of defence cannot be performed overnight, it is necessary to have correct training in accord with the prescribed military standards. Constant training means correctly following prescribed daily routines, orders and instructions without any persuasion. Every Tatmadawman has to inculcate themselves with typical attributes of a good soldier. They have to value themselves and have to love the military unit in which they serve. Moreover, they have to appreciate the gratitude of Tatmadaw and love the State and Tatmadaw. Tatmadawmen tend to accomplish the assigned duties regardless of any obstacle, big or small. They have to cultivate the good habit of correctly and responsibly accomplishing their duties.
Commanders and supervisors have to be fair in their leadership. Being leaders, they have to view things from various perspectives,practise comradeship and encourage their subordinates to do good deeds and discourage them from doing bad deeds.Regarding discipline, he said discipline is about urging and restricting. Military personnel have to abide by the disciplines and accept restrictions. Giving military training to the spouses of military personnel contributes to discipline enforcement.He urged them to avoid tobacco, betel quid and liquor which can have negative impact on their health, and to keep a balance between their incomes and expenditures.
The Senior General then provided fiction and non-fiction books,publications and foodstuffs for officers, other ranks and their families of the station; and his wife presented cash contributions for maternal and child welfare association of the station. The commander and his wife accepted them.
Then, the Commander-in-Chief(Navy), the Commander-in-Chief(Air), and Lt-Gen Than Tun Oo of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) presented foods and sport gear for the officers, other ranks and their families through responsible persons.
The Senior General and party then cordially greeted the officers and other ranks present on the occasion.
The Senior General then met community elders of Kengtung and departmental personnel, and asked about regional development works.He stressed the need for boosting the production of crops, prevention of deforestation for environmental conservation, promoting agricultural and livestock farming for regional food security, increasing the schooling rate, ensuring youths have access to formal education because they can rely on themselves only when they are graduates, and ensuring water and electricity supply in the region. The community elders and departmental personnel explained regional development undertakings and the Senior General cordially provided suggestions.
The Senior General then presented gifts to the community elders and departmental personnel and cordially greeted them.
He then visited the Roman Catholic Church in Kengtung in the evening, and met Ven. Peter Luis Kya Ku and asked after him.He also presented gifts to him. The priest presented him with Christmas present, and sung Christmas carol together. They then posed for documentary photo together.
