SENIOR GENERAL MIN AUNG HLAING ATTENDS JOINT COUNTER-TERRORISM ACTUAL-TROOP DRILL OF ADMM-PLUS (VIP PROGRAM)

A joint counter-terrorism actual-troop drill of ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus) (VIP Program) was held at Fenglin Training Field in Guilin, China this morning, attended by Myanmar Tatmadaw delegation led by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, chiefs of armed forces of 18 countries, officials of defence ministries.

On arrival at the venue, the Senior General and party were welcomed by senior officers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China and officials. Together with member of Central Military Commission and Chief of the Joint Staff Department of the CMC of the PLA General Li Zuocheng and Joint Chairman Chief of Defence Forces of Royal Thai Armed Forces, they met with chiefs of armed forces and cordially greeted each other.

The Senior General and party and attendees from the respective countries observed a demonstration of counter-terrorism actual-troop drill including antiterrorism operations, cooperation in rescuing of hostages and wounded persons, logistics, timeliness and preciseness and excellent communications carried out in a mockup of an urban. Afterwards, the Senior General and party visited Counter Terrorism Task Force Headquarters and Counter Terrorism Task Group Head-quarters and cordially greeted the delegates of the respective countries.

In the evening, the Senior General and party attended the dinner hosted by General Li Zuocheng together with the delegates to ADMM-Plus (VIP Program).

Co-chaired by China and Thai-land, the drill was jointly conducted by representatives of 18 countries, and the representatives of Myanmar also took part in it.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met General Li Zuocheng and party at the meeting room of Lijiang Water-fall Hotel in Guilin. The meeting was attended by the Senior General and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) to China Brig-Gen Zaw Oo and officials. The Chief of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commi-ssion was accompanied by Commander of Southern Theater Command General Yuan Yubai, Chinese Military Attaché to Myanmar Senior Colonel Xiong Shaowei and officials.

Cordial discussion was focused on further strengthening of the bilateral friendship based on brotherly spirit as Myanmar and China have been old good friends and strategic partner countries, timely exercise of ADMM-Plus (VIP Program) and the need for getting quick information, review of the need for global cooperation as terrorism is a global threat and terrorism is difficult to resolve by a single country, Myanmar’s taking of joint chairmanship of ADMM-Plus (VIP Program) in 2020-2022 and Chinese military’s cooperation in successful holding of the program, Tatmadaw’s peace efforts and China’s recognition and understanding of Tatmadaw’s efforts, practical and close cooperation in ensuring peace and stability in northern Myanmar, Chinese military’s assistance for Myanmar’s Tatmadaw to become modern and powerful and opportunities for Myanmar and China to serve the bilateral economic interests with good faith over China’s One Belt One Road initiative.

After the meeting, the Senior General, the Chief of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission and the Commander of Southern Theater Command exchanged gifts.
