This afternoon, a delegation led by H.E. Mr. Deng Xijiun, Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, paid a courtesy call on Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at the Tatmadaw Guest House in Nay Pyi Taw.
Accompanying the Senior General at the meeting were Commission Secretary Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Commission member Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, and Lt-Gen Ko Ko Oo from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army). The Special Envoy for Asian Affairs was accompanied by members of his delegation.
During the meeting, they cordially and openly exchanged views on a wide range of matters. The discussions covered the arrangements for the upcoming 10th Anniversary Ceremony of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and the historical participation of international witnesses, including China, during the NCA’s signing. The talks also addressed China’s valued assistance for Myanmar’s internal peace and development, along-side its respect for Myanmar’s sovereignty. Both sides noted the existing friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperative relations between the two nations, emphasizing their bond as good neighbours who share weal and woe. Further discussions focused on the ongoing preparations for holding a free and fair general election in Myanmar in December, with the Chinese side expressing its support for the process. The arrangements for using Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVMs) to ensure a free and fair election were explained, along with plans to invite international election observer teams, including from China. They also discussed matters related to cooperation for stability and peace in the border regions and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing enhancing the friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and China.
After the meeting, the Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar showed the Special Envoy for Asian Affairs the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVMs) intended for use in the upcoming election. Officials from the Union Election Commission demonstrated the step-by-step functioning of the voting machines and provided answers to the Special Envoy’s inquiries.
