The message sent by Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman
Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing
to the ceremony to mark the 105th Anniversary of National Victory Day 2025
(14 November 2025)
Esteemed people and Union-born national brethren,
First of all, I extend my greetings with best wishes for all Union-born national brethren to be physically and mentally well-being with auspiciousness on the occasion of the 105th Anniversary of National Victory Day, which falls on 10th Waning of Tazaungmone 1387 Myanmar Era, today.
Today is a historic day that the entire Myanmar people, in unity and harmony, opposed the colonial education system of the British at a time when the whole of Myanmar fell under the colonial rule of colonialist British.
In the colonial era, British colonialists suppressed the Myanmar people and kept them under their subjugation for a long time by using the education system. As the Yangon University Act, approved by the British government on 24 October 1920, aimed to restrict the university learning opportunities for the majority of Myanmar people to face hardship, students from the Yangon College and the Judson College launched acts opposing the law, and it spread throughout the entire nation.
The day when University students objected and opposed the Yangon University Act was 10th Waning of Tazaungmone 1282 ME. It was a significant day for Myanmar nationals to initiate the nationalistic spirit. Hence, the General Council of Burmese Association (GCBA) held a special conference at the Jubilee Hall in Yangon on 17 and 18 June 1922 and unanimously adopted an important decision to designate the 10th Waning of Tazaungmone as the National Day. From then onward, such activity proved that unity is the power in Myanmar’s independence struggle. The ceremony to mark the National Victory Day has been marked on a grand scale in the entire Republic of the Union of Myanmar yearly without fail, and this year’s celebration turns 105.
Esteemed people and Union-born national brethren,
We must strive to learn from the past and present events we have experienced so that we can pass on the invaluable heritage of peace to future generations of youth. The collaborative efforts of the entire people in unity play a pivotal role in practically building a Union based on democracy and a federal system. We have to build a peaceful, prosperous and overall developed nation through the united strength of the entire people without losing the essence of unity of the National Victory Day with great historic traditions.
All the people anticipate the strengthening of the genuine, disciplined democratic system and long for building a Union based on democracy and a federal system. To do so, all stakeholders need to restore peace for the sake of the Union, the ethnic nationalities and the State.
Peace and stability of the State are crucial for serving the interests of the State and the entire people. Hence, I would like to urge all the ethnic people to initiate the genuine and durable peace across the nation by ceasing the armed conflicts as a national duty in order to ensure the perpetuity of the Union.
Esteemed people and Union-born national brethren,
In implementing the multipurpose education system in order to produce well-versed human resources, the government is initiating the free education system to enable all school-age children to have the learning opportunities and complete at least the KG+9 process. Education is a fundamental force that nurtures a person’s character, intellect, spirit, and values. It not only contributes to the development of individuals but also shapes the future of a nation. Hence, it is necessary to nurture schoolchildren to become good citizens who possess sound morals, a sense of responsibility, and genuine patriotism.
Emphasis must be placed on the continuous development of the agriculture sector, which plays a key role in the improvement of the national economy, while efforts must be made to constantly enhance the socio-economic life of the people through the development of the industrial sector based on agriculture and livestock activities. To produce the necessary human resources for these sectors, priority is being given to providing students and young people with vocational education and training. Moreover, efforts are underway to expand and open basic education and industrial, agricultural, and livestock high schools, enabling middle school graduates to pursue vocational and technical studies and gain access to employment opportunities in these fields.
Through these efforts, the aim is to nurture capable and outstanding citizens who possess high levels of knowledge, skills, and competence. Teachers, in turn, must not only focus on teaching lessons but also guide and cultivate students to become well-rounded individuals who will serve as reliable and valuable human resources for the nation in the future. Only then will it be possible to build the nation with a strong foundation of knowledgeable, skilled, and excellent human resources.
Esteemed people and Union-born national brethren,
For a nation’s peace, stability, and continuous development, it is essential to promote national education that enriches every citizen’s knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and general understanding. Especially in this period of transition toward a democratic system, it is important for all ethnic peoples to think critically, distinguish right from wrong, and work for the benefit of the country and the people. Furthermore, the analytical and problem-solving abilities gained through learning education are vital qualities that greatly contribute to various fields such as politics, administration, defence, economy, and social affairs.
The nation must be built by educated and skilled citizens equipped with comprehensive knowledge and expertise. To ensure that every citizen completes basic education, efforts are being made to provide equal learning opportunities and to promote inclusive education for all. To improve national education, measures are being taken to upgrade educational infrastructure, update curricula in line with current times, enhance the academic capacity of teachers, and expand learning opportunities. Hence, the education budget is also being steadily increased year by year. Therefore, through the promotion of national education, all citizens must work together to ensure the nation’s continuous, strong, and sustainable development.
Now is a crucial period for building a Union based on democracy and a federal system for our nation. To ensure the successful implementation of the multi-party democratic system long desired by the people, the multi-party democratic general election will soon be held. As the electoral process represents the correct path we must follow, the public is urged to participate actively and work together to ensure its success.
Esteemed people and Union-born national brethren,
The National Victory Day is a historic day in Myanmar’s struggle for independence. It is a day that awakened and strengthened the national spirit, patriotism, and vitality of the Myanmar people. On this significant and noble occasion, under the motto of the 105th National Victory Day, “Let’s march towards a new golden nation in unity,” I deeply urge all citizens of Myanmar to uphold the spirit of the Union and, with unity and national strength, work together to build a peaceful, prosperous, and developed new Golden Land.
In conclusion, I would like to urge all Union-born national brethren to join hands with each other in unity with collaborative efforts to build a Union based on democracy and a federal system successfully while upholding the objectives for 105th National Victory Day 2025:
– to preserve and protect the perpetuity and stability of the Union by all ethnic people as a national duty;
– to build a nation with human resources who have perfect knowledge and skills;
– to promote national education for the continued and sustainable development and prosperity of the nation;
– and to preserve and safeguard national cultural characteristics from disappearing.
