Senior General Min Aung Hlaing visits Port of Singapore

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, currently in Singapore accompanied by Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Maung Maung Kyaw and senior military officers, Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore U Htay Aung, Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) Col Hsan Nyunt Oo and officials, visited the Port of Singapore this morning.

First, the Senior General and party arrived at PSA International Company where they were briefed by Ms. Kwong Wai Yan, Southeast Asian Chief Financial Officer of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, and officials on the background history and operations of the port with the use of video slides. The Senior General asked what he wanted to know.

The Senior General and party viewed the port from the PSA building. On arrival at the port control centre, the Senior General and party viewed loading and unloading of containers under remote control system and they were conducted round by officials.

Next, the Senior General and party went round by car in the port yard. Ms. Kwong Wai Yan presented a painting depicting the Port of Singapore to the Senior General, who then presented a gift to her. Built in 1964, the port handles containers from worldwide, and is the world’s busiest port in terms of total shipping tonnage. In 2017, PSA International Co handled 33.25 million containers as it boasts a fleet of over 200 cranes with 140 containers in daily operation. The port also trans-ships nearly six percent of the world’s shipping containers.

The Senior General and party then arrived at the Office of Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) where they were welcomed by the families of the military attaché and Myanmar military officers studying in Singapore. The Senior General urged them to cooperate with concerned departments including Myanmar Embassy in Singapore for promotion of bilateral trade, and learn computer science as Singapore has been able to apply information technology in everyday life, and live a healthy lifestyle for general well-being.

The Senior General then presented foods and gifts to Military Attaché Col Hsan Nyunt Oo and wife and other families of the Office of Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air). They then hosted dinner to the Senior General and party.
