Senior General Min Aung Hlaing meets Minister of Defence of Japan Mr. Taro Kono

NAY PYI TAW, October 10

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is in Japan on goodwill visit, met Minister of Defence of Japan Mr. Taro Kono at the latter’s office this evening.

Also present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Lt-Gen Nyo Zaw and Lt-Gen Soe Htut from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Myanmar Ambassador to Japan U Myint Thu and Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) Col Tin Soe. The Japanese Defence Minister was accompanied by Lieutenant General Masuko Yutaka, Vice Chief of Staff, Joint Staff of Japan Self-Defence Forces, Chairman of Nippon Foundation Mr. Yohei SASAKAWA and party.

At the meeting, Myanmar’s march on the path to multi-party democracy, Tatmadaw’s efforts to restore internal peace, Japanese assistance, the correct stand of Japan in support of Myanmar at UN meetings, international inclusiveness and information sharing to prevent natural disasters caused by global warming and terrorism, promotion of relations and cooperation in multiple sectors including defence, education and trade were cordially discussed.

After the meeting, the Senior General and the Japanese Defence Minister exchanged gifts.
