Skills of traditional legacy genuine Myanmar martial arts in procedures demonstrated with dynamic nationalistic spirit, brave and freshness, fitness; Finals and awarding of Myanmar martial arts held in Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competitions for 2018-2019

Ancient Myanmar traditions and history proved that soldiers who were skillful in fencing, spearing and cavalry events built the country with nationalistic spirit, brave, freshness and fitness. Myanmar traditional martial arts is an art of showing dynamic Myanmar nationalistic spirit, brave and freshness as well as fitness. The Myanmar martial arts sport was put into the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competitions for 2018-2019 held in Nay Pyi Taw, aimed at developing the Myanmar traditional martial arts. The final matches and prize presentation ceremony took place at Zeyathiri Tatmadaw Stadium (B) in Nay Pyi Taw this evening, attended by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who also presented prizes to the winners.


Also present at the ceremony together with the Senior General were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Maung Maung Kyaw, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, commanders of military commands, officials of Myanmar Martial Arts Federation, members of the penal of judges, officers, other ranks and families from the offices and departments from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air), officers, other ranks and families from regiments and units under Nay Pyi Taw Command, and athletes.

First, the Senior General and attendees watched competitions in final matches. They enjoyed the match between teams representing Central Command and Southern Command in Bando attack event, the match between the team representing Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and that of Southern Command in the one-sword attack event and the match between the team representing Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and that of Central Command in the Pencak Silat attack event.

Afterwards, female and male trainees from the training depots under the Office of the Chief of Armed Forces Training showed off their brilliant skills in 63 technique methods of basic Bando event, techniques of move to dodge, move to defend and move to attack, defending techniques of blowing, Bando attack techniques for one person against an enemy, arts of armed self-defence attack techniques for one person against two enemies, one person against three enemies and one person against four enemies, preventive techniques for dagger and sword attacks, procedures of one sword, spear and long stick attacks, ways to attack three enemies by one person in arts of armed self-defence, ways to attack five enemies by one person with the use of short stick, ways to attack four enemies by one person in arts of armed self-defence, ways to attack five enemies by one person in arts of armed self-defence, and techniques for move of dodging, defending and dodging plus attacks.


At the prize presentation ceremony, Chairman of Tatmadaw Sports and Physical Education Administrative Committee Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Hsan Oo awarded athletes from first prize winning team representing Northern Command and the second prize winning team representing Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) in the Bando attack (A) class (61-65 kilos) event, the first prize winning team representing Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and the second prize winning team representing Central Command in the Pencak Silat (A) class (55-60 kilos) event and the first prize winning team representing Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and the second prize winning team representing Southern Command in the one-sword attack (A) class (50-55 kilos) event. General Maung Maung Kyaw presented prizes to athletes from the first prize winning team representing Southern Command and the second prize winning team representing Nay Pyi Taw Command in the two-sword attack (A) class (45-50 kilos) event, the first prize winning team representing Southern Command and the second prize winning team representing Central Command in the Bando attack (A) class (49-53 kilos) event, and the first prize winning team representing Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and the second prize winning team representing Central Command in the Pencak Silat (A) class (45-50 kilos) event. Admiral Tin Aung San awarded the team representing Southern Command which won the best athlete award in the Bando attack event, Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) in the Pencak Silat event, Central Command in the sword attack event and Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) in the skill demonstration event. Vice-Senior General Soe Win presented championship trophies to the team representing Southern Command in the Bando attack event, Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) in the Pencak Silat event, Southern Command in the sword attack event and Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) in the skill demonstration event respectively.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing presented overall Myanmar martial arts championship trophy to the team representing Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) which bagged 23 gold, six silver and six bronze medals, totalling 35 in the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competitions for 2018-2019.

The competitions consisted of four sports events in Myanmar martial arts. Final matches of the competitions were Bando attack (A) class (61-65 kilos) event, Bando attack (A) class (45-50 kilos) event, Pencak Silat attack (A) class (55-60 kilos) event, Bando attack (A) class (49-53 kilos) event, one-sword attack (A) class (50-55 kilos) event and Pencak Silat attack (A) class (45-50 kilos) event.
