Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing plants gangaw tree at third monsoon tree planting ceremony for 2023 held in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory

The third monsoon tree planting ceremony for 2023 was held on both sides of the entrance road to Maravijaya Image from Milepost 204 mile one furlong on Yangon-Mandalay expressway at plot 13 of Yanaungmyin forest reserve in Leway Township, Dekkhina District, Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, this morning.

Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing planted a gangaw tree.

Present together with the Senior General were SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, the SAC Secretary, the Joint Secretary, SAC members, union level officials, union ministers, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chair, the chief of General Staff (Army,Navy and Air), senior military officers from the Office the of Commander-in-Chief, the Nay Pyi Taw Command commander, deputy ministers, officers and staff of ministries, students of forestry and environmental Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing plants gangaw tree at third monsoon tree planting ceremony for 2023 held in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory science universities and basic education schools and officials.

In his speech, the Senior General said at this ceremony, 15 kinds of tree totaling 2,520 will be planted. Trees are being planted with momentum in the entire country. A total of 24.629 million trees will be planted in established plantations including State-owned plantations in the rainy season.

As climate relies on forests, forests and trees help all organisms flourish in addition to beautifying the world. They also preserve biodiversity and maintain the ecosystem, thereby preventing the natural disasters such floods, landslides and storms by improving the climate and protecting soil and water. Forests and trees also provide food, medicines and wood products.

As they have relations with every sector that can balance and adjust the three sectors economic and social development and environmental conservation and serve as a benefactor for sustainable development.

Tree plantation and conservation program is one of the rehabilitation undertakings in ten townships in Rakhine State including Sittwe that were hit by cyclone Mocha on 14 May 2023. The program is being carried out with momentum as a protection against natural disasters.

Forest depletion should be alleviated and mangrove forests plantation and conservation should be carried out along the coast as a disaster protection green wall.

According to weather forecast, El Nino will appear in September 2023 and March 2024. Previous experiences indicate the likelihood of a dry weather and a drought. Hence, preparations should be made to overcome water shortages and high temperatures.

Apart from forested areas, grooves of trees outside them are also vitally important. Trees provide shade, and shade provides a place to take rest. Hence, trees should be successfully planted in and around urban and rural areas to green and provide a cool ambience. Trees are being planted along the main thoroughfares of Myanmar ASEAN highways and Yangon-Mandalay expressway, and railways in cooperation with the relevant ministries.

The country’s majority of population lies in rural areas.

Hence, the country must set up village fuel-wood plantations, grow shade trees and wind breakers village wise, conserve forests and trees on hills and mountain ranges, plant and conserve trees along natural watercourses, plant mangrove trees in coastal areas, in effectively planting trees and conserving and protecting them.

Planting trees provides various kinds of benefits, and the environmental services offered by forests are much important for live. More tree plantations should be established to green and beautify the entire country including Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. All must take into account the various perspectives in conserving and protecting forests and trees and ecosystem, which are of vital importance for food sufficiency, alleviating climate change, natural disaster prevention, as a national task.

Then, the Senior General planted a gangaw sapling at the designated place.

The Vice-Senior General, the SAC Secretary, the Joint Secretary, SAC members, union level officials, union ministers, honored guests, officers and staff of ministries, students of forestry and environmental science universities and basic education schools and officials planted saplings.

The Senior General and party visited the participants who were growing trees with joy.

The Senior General observed the thriving trees of various species planted to green the compound of Maravijaya Bhddha Park. In response to reports presented by officials, the Senior General stressed the need to systematically carry out greening and beautifying task in the compound.

At the ceremony, a total of 2,520 trees of 15 various species were planted in a mass movement.

A total of 24.629 million trees will be planted in established plantations including State-owned plantations in the rainy season.
