A ceremony to connect the Myanmar-Korea Friendship Bridge (Dala) in Yangon Region through concrete pouring was held this morning. Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony and per-formed the process with a controller.

Also present at the ceremony together with the Senior General were SSPC Secretary Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, union ministers U Mya Tun Oo, Dr Charlie Than and U Myo Thant, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Yangon Command commander and officials.

The Senior General and party arrived at the venue and were welcomed by union ministers and officials. Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant explained points of the Myan-mar-Korea Friendship Bridge (Dala) project.

The ceremony began and the master of ceremonies reported on the bridge.

The Senior General presented fruit baskets to the engineering teams of the bridge project.

At the auspicious time, Acting President of the Republic of  the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of  the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing op-ened the ceremony by pushing a button, and performed the task to connect the bridge through cement pouring. The Senior General and party sprinkled scented water on the connected part.

The Senior General and party posed for documentary photos in commemoration of the cere-mony. The ceremony then came to a close. The Senior General and party inspected the construction progress of the Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge and received reports from responsible officials. The Senior General then gave necessary instructions.The Myanmar-Korea Friend-ship (Dala) Bridge construction project was discussed during former President U Thein Sein’s goodwill visit to Korea in 2012, aiming to implement one Myanmar-Korea Friendship project in Myanmar. The project implementation began in 2013, and preliminary engi-neering and design work started in 2015 to enable the commence-ment of construction work. During the bridge construction period, work faced difficulties and delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the current government, during its tenure of state responsibility, was able to supplement the project with state funds, allowing for its completion. The Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge is a cable-stayed steel bridge with four lanes. The main bridge length is 2,264 feet, the Yangon approach bridge is 1,891 feet, the Dala approach bridge is 1,972 feet, and the Yangon and Dala approach roads are 3,453 feet long, making the total length of the entire bridge structure 6,127 feet.

The Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge is the cable-stayed bridge in Myanmar with the highest navigational clearance. It has a vertical clearance of 160 feet and a horizontal clearance of 990 feet, allowing the passage of international seafaring vessels of up to 15,000 tons and large domestic water-way vessels. The bridge’s load capacity is 75 tons per vehicle. Myanmar engineers have gained experience in the design and construction of cable-stayed bridges, along with modern technologies and methodologies. Upon the final completion and opening of this major bridge, travel from Yangon City, Yan-gon Region, to Dala, Twantay, Kawhmu,  and  Kungyangon townships, as well as easily and quickly to towns in Ayeyawady Region, including those via Daydaye, such as Daydaye, Pyapon, Bogale, and coastal areas, will be facilitated. This is also expected to reduce the current traffic congestion in Yangon City to a certain extent.

It is understood that development will advance in various sectors including social, economic, education, health, and transportation, and the bridge will also become a landmark of Yangon City.
