Senior General Min Aung Hlaing meets senior officer instructors and senior officer trainees from Command and General Staff College

A battalion is the most basic part of the Tatmadaw. It must be the one relied on by the country and the people and must be inseparable with the people, and the officer trainees must strive to be good commanders through the successful application of knowledge gained at the course in the practical field, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing during his meeting with senior officer instructors and senior officer trainees from Command and General Staff College in Kalaw Station this afternoon.

Also present were Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, senior military officers from the Office of Commander-in-Chief, Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Lin Aung, the Deputy Commandant of the Command and General Staff College and senior officer instructors and senior officer trainees.

In his address, the Senior General said they must be ready for a conventional war by having combat prowess and fighting skills. They must practically apply the knowledge imparted by the course to improve the combat prowess of the battalion.

As the battalion is the most basic unit of the Tatmadaw, battalions must be efficient, and the commanding officer plays a vital role to reach this end. The CO must be indivisible with officers, other ranks and the wives of soldiers under his command, and must have the mutual attachment. They must build internal unity through fair command. They must also pay attention to improving the education level of servicemen and their wives, and ensure a 100 percent literacy rate.

They must strive to be good commanders through the successful application of knowledge gained at the course in the practical field. Officer trainees are required to read books, and strive to be imbued with legal, political and military knowledge. Moreover, they must observe discipline in every action in accordance with their rank. Their battalion must be the one relied on by the country and the people and must be inseparable with the people.

As regards the peace, the Senior General said federal means living in unity, and democracy means self-restraint and discipline. They should let the ethnic people where they are posted to understand the Tatmadaw’s attitude towards peace, its endeavours for eternal peace, the importance of peace that will bring national development through regional development, and Tatmadaw’s permanent awareness of unity and harmony when it comes to national races affairs.
