First Call Announcement of Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel) held

As a gesture of honouring the 71st Anniversary of the Union Day, Commanderin- Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended a ceremony to hold First Call Announcement of Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel) which is the fourth telecom operator in Myanmar, which is a joint-venture between Myanmar and Vietnam, at Kempinski Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw this morning.

Also present at the ceremony together with the Senior General were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, the Union Ministers, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Dr. Luan Thuy Duong, chair of Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel) U Khin Maung Soe and officials and guests.

In his opening speech, the Senior General said as part of its effort for transparency in the country’s reforms and development tasks, two foreign operators Ooredoo Myanmar Ltd and Telenor Myanmar Ltd and two local operators MPT and KDDI Summit Global Myanmar Company Limited have been allowed to offer telecom services. According to the growing population and suggestions of scholars, the nationwide telecommunication licence has been granted to Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel) as the fourth operator.

Viettel Global Investment Joint Stock Company Limited, Star High Company owned by Myanmar Economic Corporation and MNTH Public Limited signed the Joint Venture Agreement in 2016. The launch of the business within one year and five months is the result of goodwill and eagerness of those from both sides. The systematic upgrading of the already-existed infrastructures of the MEC Tel is one of the crucial points. Telecommunication industry is included in the list of major businesses which help drive the country’s growth.

Thanks to the better telecommunications system for giving sevices to both home and abroad on time, the socioeconomic status of the people will improve rapidly. Improving telecommunication system can be utilized for the improvement of the people’s lives.

And offi cials need to be aware of telecom security. He continued to say that Mytel, the fourth telecom operator can connect local telecom sector as well as foreign operators. As part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), it will carry out the public services such as free Internet, multimedia, tele-center, video conference for organizations, charity program under the name of Operation Smile etc. In addition, Mytel will provide the best services in cooperation with other same service providers in the telecommunications sector. Along with its improvements, Mytel will provide assistance for more development of Myanmar social environment.

Then, the Senior General said the First Call Announcement Ceremony was held today after establishing the telecommunication network of Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel) being jointly conducted by Myanmar and Vietnam.

He thanked the Union Minister for Transport and Communications, departmental officials, the Union Minister for Planning and Finance, the Union Minister for Electricity and Energy, the Chairman of MIC, the Secretary and departmental offi cials, the chief ministers of regions and states and members of cabinets, the National Defence Minister and the Information and Communications Minister of Vietnam, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar, the chairman of Viettel Group and officials for their assistance to successfully hold the ceremony.

As a gesture of hailing the 71st Anniversary of Union Day, the First Call Announcement Ceremony was auspiciously held today to operate the telecommunications network of Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel). As such, it was a success for the communications sector of Myanmar to contribute to communication services and IT services, beneficial to the State.

Chair of Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel) U Khin Maung Soe extended greetings and gave a PowerPoint presentation on implementation of the project. As Chair U Khin Maung Soe of Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel) and CEO Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam declared readiness of Mytel Network, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Union Ministers U Thant Sin Maung, U Win Khaing and U Kyaw Win, Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Nyo Saw, Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar H.E.Dr. Luan Thuy Duong, Chair U Khin Maung Soe and CEO Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam pressed the buttons to launch the connection of Mytel Network.

The Senior General extended greetings to Vietnamese Minister of National Defence H.E. General Ngo Xuan Lich through video call of Mytel Network. Then, the Senior General called Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Nyi Nyi Swe, Commander of Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Aung Zaw Aye and Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Lin Aung through the video call.

Union Minister U Thant Sin Maung connected with the director of Mytel Yangon branch through video call of Mytel Network with quality images and services.Chair U Khin Maung Soe and CEO Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam presented emblems and gifts to mark the First Call Announcement of Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel) to the Senior General and guests.

They then posed for documentary photo. The Senior General and party visited the booths displayed by Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel). Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (Mytel) got Nationwide Telecom licence on 12 January 2017 thanks to collaborative efforts of Myanmar and Vietnam. The company is formed with 51 percent of shares owned by 11 public groups on Myanmar side.
