The slogan “Let us protect our environment for the prosperity of the Nation” calls for special attention

Families of Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) and the military command headquarters have been holding large-scale monsoon tree-planting ceremonies since 2011 with the aim of conserving the natural environment, improving the weather conditions, increasing shady areas and supporting the national economy.
At the third monsoon tree-planting ceremony for 2025 of the families of Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) held at the venue near Yezin Dam in Zeyathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, today, Chairman of State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing led the ceremony and planted a teak sapling, a precious tree species.
Also present were Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the Senior General, Vice Chairman of the Commission Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than Nwe, Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin and wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and wife, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and wives, union level officials and wives, officer trainees of National Defence College, officers, other ranks and families of branches and departments under the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army).
In his address, the Senior General said the soil becomes well-nourished and full of life during the rainy season, and at that time, the Tatmadaw holds tree-planting ceremonies and grow trees continuously. It is the third tree-planting ceremony of this year. Forest conservation is the principal goal of the tree-planting ceremony, which is also to regenerate the places where trees were lost due to various reasons.
Forests and all tree species serve as the primary source in the food chain for the survival of men and animals. They are also the main driving force behind the improvement of ecosystem for the existence all forms of life. Fastest regeneration of the forested areas that have become vacant is everyone’s meritorious duty.
Tree-felling for various purposes is followed by a chain of reactions, global climate change, record high temperatures, severe storms and downpours, from which the world is suffering. As climate change is caused by human action, the onus is on man to conserve and restore it. In this regard, forest plantation, conservation and protection are the basic factors that can prevent natural disasters to a certain degree.
Myanmar society has a saying, “If you want eternal happiness, grow trees!” Basically, tree-growing creates a favourable environment. The State Security and Peace Commission has adopted the slogans: “Let us encourage production for prosperity of the Nation”, “Let us ensure education sector for the development of the Nation”, and “Let us protect our environment for the prosperity of the Nation”. Everyone favours a pleasant nation. The Senior General said the Tatmadaw has been organizing tree-planting ceremonies since 2011, the year in which he started shouldering the duties of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services. He said thanks to those ceremonies, the surrounding areas of Yezin Dam have become vibrant and green. The retired senior military officers also feel peace and happiness when they witness that the saplings they had planted in Nay Pyi Taw are now thriving and they had created a lush and green environment. Saplings planted at the ceremony will thrive well in the future and make the land greener and lusher, which will be a memorable event. Hence, tree-growing should be a continuous activity. Growing of trees at every compound, street and ward is the continuous encouragement for everyone given by the Senior General.
Now, it is said that the current state of greenery and pleasantness has reached a considerable level. If the activities of planting and conserving trees and plants for environmental protection are carried out continuously, the benefits of our efforts will be enjoyed for generations to come. Since tree planting requires the investment of time, money, and manpower, it should not be done merely out of duty but with genuine dedication. Therefore, it is urged that the trees we plant should be cultivated systematically to ensure each one thrives, and those responsible for their continued care and growth must also emphasize systematic maintenance with great seriousness.

First, the Senior General and his wife led the planting of valuable teak trees. Subsequently, the Vice Chairman of the Commission Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) and his wife, the Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) and his wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and his wife, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, as well as officer and other ranks and families attending the ceremony, planted trees in their designated areas. Afterwards, the Senior General and his wife, along with the entourage, toured and encouraged the collective tree planting efforts of the officer and other ranks and families.

In today’s Third Tree Planting Ceremony organized by the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) families, a total of 2,400 trees were collectively planted, including 900 teak trees, 600 Pyinkadoe trees, 300 Padauk trees, and 600 Mahogany trees. For environmental and ecosystem conservation around the Yezin Dam, the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) families have held a total of 44 tree planting festivals from 2011 to the Third Tree Planting Ceremony in 2025, planting a total of 208,425 trees, including valuable trees, perennial crop trees, and shade and windbreak trees.
The entire Tatmadaw plants 186,312 trees collectively today
Similarly, in various Regional Command territories, monsoon tree planting ceremonies were held, where valuable trees, industrial raw material crop trees, perennial consumable crop trees, and shade and windbreak trees were collectively planted. Accordingly, 11,350 trees in Nay Pyi Taw Command, 6,390 in Northern Command, 9,009 in Eastern Command, 18,795 in Central East Command, 21,594 in Triangle Region Com-mand, 10,047 in South Eastern Command, 15,881 in Coastal Region Command, 18,200 in Yangon Command, 6,145 in South Western Command, 20,276 in North Western Command, 29,214 in Central Command, and 17,011 in Southern Command were planted by commanders and responsible personnel. Today, the Tatmadaw, including the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy, and Air) family members, various Regional Commands, regiments, and units, collectively planted a total of 186,312 trees.
