Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Secretary of the commission Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, members of his entourage, the chief minister of Yangon Region and officials, inspected the con-struction site of the Myanmar Art Center-Yangon in Insein Township in Yangon Region this afternoon.
First, the Senior General heard reports on the background history of implementation of construction of international-standard Myanmar art centers that could stage music and the atrical performance in Yangon and Mandalay under the guidance of President U Thein Sein during the tenure of the first democratic government, delays in implementation caused by various reasons during the term of the second democratic government, measures taken to resume the delayed construction of the centers by incorporating Myanmar traditional designs and future tasks submitted by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn at the temporary briefing room of the construction site.
After hearing the reports, the Senior General said it is necessary to continue to implement the construction of the international-standard Myanmar Art Center (Yangon) in accordance with its original aims, to systematically incorporate international-standard setting, lighting and sound systems in doing so and to construct the center so that operas can be performed in it. The Senior General added that the government is placing emphasis on the purpose of the continued implementation of the construction of the center is to preserve and develop arts such as Myanmar cinema, theatre and music.
Then, the Senior General and party inspected the construc-tion site and gave necessary instructions on continued implementation of the project based on reports of responsible officials.
As the projects to construct the international-standard art centers were delayed during the second democratic government, artists suffered about 10-year delays to create artistic works in Myanmar film, theatre and music. It was learnt that the implementation of the projects will be continued with the aim of preserving and developing artistic works in Myanmar films, theatre and music.
