Nay Pyi Taw December 21
Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing this morning meet officers, other ranks and families at Mya Ayeya Hall in Pyay Station under the Southern Command.
Also present at the meeting were Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, the wife of the Senior General; Commission Secretary General Ye Win Oo and his wife, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Htein Win and his wife, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Tun Aung, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, the commander of Southern Command, and officers, other ranks and families of Pyay Station.
At the meeting, the Senior General delivered a speech, saying that the Southern Command area has long been a region with a history of unrest, where insurgencies of KNU and BCP had previously been suppressed for many years. The situation later became stable. However, after the Tatmadaw assumed State responsibilities in 2021, PDF insurgents began carrying out terror acts. Therefore, the Tatmadaw had to undertake measures to restore stability and peace in the area.
In order for the Tatmadaw to serve its national defence duties, it must always remain “fit for fight.” Every Tatmadaw member must maintain good health and physical strength. Therefore, daily physical fitness activities must be regularly practised. Tatmadaw members must eat and live in ways appropriate to their age so that they maintain a healthy and strong physique, and must continue individual physical training. Only when they are healthy and resilient will they be able to successfully perform their duties. Likewise, if they remain mindful in their movements—being cautious when going and coming—they will be able to prevent possible dangers in advance. Nothing is more important than vigilance.
Courage is essential in combat. In fighting, Tatmadaw members must apply the military skills they have been trained in and use them effectively on the battlefield with bravery in order to fight successfully. Courage does not mean acting recklessly or foolishly, but acting with the determination and confidence to do what is right and necessary. Each Tatmadaw member must continuously train to become proficient in their respective fields of duty. For effective firing performance, they must also be fully skilled in handling and using the weapons and equipment assigned to them.
Constant practice is necessary to apply the military skills taught in training to real battle-field situations. In line with the policy of “Study, Train, Obey,” Tatmadaw members must continuously study the ever advancing military sciences, regularly train to further improve the skills they have already learned, and always follow the established rules, regulations, orders, and instructions. To remain “fit for fight,” they must consistently carry out their daily assigned duties. Reviewing the military skills they have been taught and performing their daily tasks are themselves forms
of continuous training.
Regarding welfare and well-being, he said that just as the Tatmadaw provides support for soldiers’ welfare, each individual must also manage their own income and expenses in a balanced and responsible manner. Tatmadaw members have to avoid, as much as possible, alcohol, betel quid, cigarettes and other indulgences, and to maintain self-discipline. As Tatmadaw members serve national defence duties at the risk of their lives, they have to value and take care of their own lives.
Everyone constantly works to improve their own lives, and those who put in strong effort are able to achieve greater progress. Therefore, individuals must take care of themselves and strive diligently for their personal development. Efforts have been made to enhance the education of Tatmadaw members. Similarly, the Tatmadaw continues to ensure that Tatmadaw members receive full salaries and allowances, proper provisions, and the means to live and dress in a manner befitting their ranks.
Knowledge makes a good person, and skills make a capable person, emphasizing that formal education is necessary to develop knowledge. Efforts must be made to enhance knowledge, skills, and educational attainment, as education elevates an individual’s life. There-fore, people should regularly study books and literature that provide knowledge and stimulate thinking. Likewise, just as they promote the education of their own children, they should encourage reading books and materials that expand know-ledge. He added that they want to help their children achieve a life better than their own. The necessary support and recognition for the education of Tatmadaw family members are continuously provided, and the State also works to improve the nation’s overall educational standards.
The Tatmadaw is carrying out the national defence duties and is an integral part of the State, while its personnel are also part of the people. The Tatmadaw is the most steadfast organization ensuring the State’s continued existence and must carry out national defense responsibilities hand in hand with the public. Therefore, soldiers should live and act in unity with the people. The experiences they encounter should serve as lessons, guiding them to act well for themselves, for the Tatmadaw, and for the benefit of the nation.
A multi-party democratic general election will be held in the near future. In voting, it is important to choose and support candidates who can respect and uphold their responsibilities, genuinely serve the interests of their region and the nation, participate effectively in legislative work, and work together with the Tatmadaw to promote the country’s welfare. After the election, the government that emerges will be entrusted with the nation’s responsibilities. Therefore, every-one should collectively work to ensure the successful conduct of a free and fair multiparty democratic general election.
