Nay Pyi Taw December 28
The 2025 Multi-party Democracy General Election of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar began at 6 am today in the entire country, and all voters went to the polls.
Acting President of the Re-public of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by SSPC Vice Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than Nwe, SSPC Secretary General Ye Win Oo and wife, SSPC member Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin and wife, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and wives, officers, other ranks and families, cast vote at the No 1 Polling Station in Anawratha Ward, Zeyathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.

After the Senior General had cast the vote, he answered the questions raised by local and foreign news media gathering news information at the polling station.
Q: As a leading person in organizing the election, how much can you guarantee its freeness and fairness, and what’s your message for the people?
A: Today’s voting process stands witness to the freeness and fair-ness of the election. Moreover, there is the preliminary period or the post-election period, and the activities of parties, functions of administrative bodies and the Election Commission during the time show that the election is free and fair. Voices may come out in the evening after the completion of today’s voting process, right? Then you can make a judgement on the election. I have guaranteed the election will be free and fair. a free and fair election. It’s the work of the Tatmadaw, and the Tatmadaw won’t let its reputation be harmed. The 2020 election was a total disgrace as what happened then was really terrible. Internationally, the incident was so horrible and shameful. Some ignored the terrible incident. But I know very well as I was the person who exa-mined the whole event. What happened during the election was very appalling. The incident reached to that degree as it can-not be understood in any way. So, I would like to say that every-thing will be clear at the end of the day. After this phrase, there will be two more, one on 11 January and the other on 25 January. So, make a judgement only after all the phases have completed.

Q: Senior General, tell me your political vision, please. What is your plan for the post-election landscape? Are you going to be the president?
A: I am the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services, and I am just a civil servant. I can’t say what I want to do or what I wish. I am not the leader of a political party. The Hluttaw has the process to elect the president during its session. Then the MPs will do their job, and only at that time, it will be appropriate to discuss the issue.

Q: What’s your message for the people who are still undecided whether to vote or not?
A: Definitely, they should vote. If multi-party democracy is accepted, an election, which is its essence, must be held. There must be an election. So, people can express their desires. They don’t need to vote for a person they dislike. They can give their yes vote to the one they support or like. They can make their choice, but in some cases, there may be few choices and in others, there can be a lot of choices. They have the right to vote the person in their favour, and that’s a given. I can assume that the one who does not vote is a person who does not understand the essence of democracy completely.

Accompanied by the SSPC Secretary and members of the entourage, Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of State Security and Peace Commission,Senior General Min Aung Hlaing visited the people who were casting votes at the relevant polling stations in Zeyathiri, Pyinmana, Ottarathiri, and Pobbathiri townships, Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, and cordially conversed with them.
