Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing discusses urban development of Hlaing Tha Ya with officials

      Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met chairmen and members of industrial zone committees and MSME entrepreneurs in Yangon Region at Kanuang Hall of Hlaing Tha Ya Industrial Zone and discussed urban development this morning.

Also present were Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo and member Lt-Gen Nyo Saw of the SAC, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Commander Maj-Gen Zaw Hein of Yangon Command, deputy ministers, region and district level officials, chairmen of industrial zone committees and MSME entrepreneurs.

Tasks being carried out and requirements in Hlaing Tha Ya reported

    First, the chief minister reported to the Senior General on the brief history of Hlaing Tha Ya Township and the industrial zone, tasks being carried out in industrial zones, projects being implemented, development of industrial zones, the upgrading of roads and future plans, tasks to upgrade Bayint Naung Park, construction of Bayint Naung bridge park for recreation of the public, cleanliness of Yangon, measures taken for compliance of traffic and road rules and development tasks.

Then, Chairman of Hlaing Tha Ya Industrial Zone U Ohn Saing reported to the Senior General on the need to import raw materials to substitute imports and Mayor U Bo Htay reported to the Senior General on measures taken for systematic development of housing estates and prevention of squatters along main roads.

Efforts made for urban and industrial development

      After hearing the reports, the Senior General said he visited the industrial zone to fulfill the needs for further development of the township and industries and measures are being taken for upgrading the township. Responsible officials are required to make efforts for completion of the electricity generation project at the Htaingbin garbage heap as soon as possible. It is necessary to supply sufficient electricity in Yangon and the region government is required to make efforts to generate electricity through various ways and means including the use of natural gas and solar energy.

Similarly, other state and regional governments are required to carry out tasks for the electricity and other sectors under their authority. Only when electricity is supplied sufficiently to industrial zones, will they be able to carry out production.

As for raw materials, it will be more beneficial for the country if foreign currency spending can be reduced by using raw materials produced from states and regions instead of imported raw materials. The government has to spend foreign currencies to import fuel oil and edible oil.

Therefore, efforts must be made for further development of transportation systems that rely on electric vehicles and industries that are operated by the use of electric energy. In connection with edible oil, the country cannot produce enough edible for domestic consumption although oil crops thrive in the country. If fuel oil and edible oil can be sufficiently produced in the country, foreign currency spending can be reduced.

In 2021-2022, measures were taken for squatters in the township in accordance with the law by placing emphasis on pleasantness and systematic development of the township. Measures must also be taken for development of the education and health sectors of the township.

Tasks must be carried out to prevent squatters and to resettle them in accordance with the law.

In implementing urban and housing projects, it is necessary to take measures in accordance with the town plan systematically.

It is important to make efforts for cleanliness and pleasantness of the township. Implementation of projects must not damage farmland. In construction of markets, it is necessary to build shopping malls that meet standards and car parking spaces and food stalls must be systematically added to them. Measures must be taken for convenient shopping of people from all walks of life and a favorable environment must be created for high living standards of urbanites.

Urban and housing projects must be implemented systematically

       It was learnt that there are only a few schools in the eastern part of the township.

 In construction of schools, it is necessary to build sports grounds and halls according to their standards. As quality education is essential for the brighter future of the country, schools must meet their standards. It is necessary to build basic education schools in every ward and sports grounds must be attached to them. In implementing urban and housing projects, sport grounds, markets, schools and hospitals must be built. It is essential to develop town plans systematically to upgrade the township.

Comprehensive measures must be taken into consideration for urban development and long-term plans must be adopted for the development of the township.

After the meeting, the Senior General and party cordially greeted the participants.

Then, the Senior General and party proceeded to the Bayint Naung bridge and park construction project and the mayor reported to the Senior General on tasks being carried out. After hearing the reports, the Senior General pointed out the needs to plant shady and flower trees such as gold mohur trees, star flower trees and mesa ferrea trees in the park and to take consistent measures to enable the public to recreate there happily and gave necessary instructions.

Then, the Senior General and party inspected the township and gave necessary instructions on cleanliness and pleasantness on both sides of roads in connection with reports of responsible officials.
