Senior General Min Aung Hlaing meets Defence Minister of Russian Federation through Video Tele Conference (VTC)

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met Defence Minister of the Russian Federation H.E. Army General Sergey Kuzhugetovich Shoigu through Video Tele Conference (VTC) this evening.

Also present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Maung Maung Kyaw and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services. The Defence Minister of the Russian Federation was accompanied at the meeting by Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander V. Fomin and Director of FSMTC Dmitry E. SHUGAEV.

The Senior General and the Defence Minister of Russian Federation delivered opening speeches. First, the Defence Minister informedthe Senior General that the Senior General was honoured with the Honorary Professor of the Russian Military University on 20 August in accord with the decision of the Education Council of the Military University of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Science, conferred Honoris Causa (Honorable Doctor) on the Senior General on 4 September and the Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) awarded an honorary medal to the Senior General on 23 June 2020 and the Russian Defence Minister congratulated the Senior General on receiving the title, the degree and the medal. Then, the Senior General and the Defence Minister warmly discussed and exchanged views on fraternal ties between the two armed forces despite the geographical distance between Myanmar and the Russian Federation, participation of the Tatmadaw in the International Army Game-2020 and KAVKAZ-2020 (Caucasus-2020) strategic military drill held in the Russian Federation, programmes to enhance training and cooperation, the situation of the spread of COVID-19, the cooperation in prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 and further promotion of military technical cooperation between the two armed forces.
